I’m excited by colour, and love to make fabrics to wear or to decorate the home on my weaving looms. Rainbows and the Dartmoor landscape inspire me and their colours find their way onto my loom.
I’m an inspiring and patient teacher, and I love to help others learn the skills of weaving and knitting and create their own weavings. It’s an ancient craft and I’m proud to be continuing in a tradition that goes back to our earliest ancestors. The tools of my trade are made of wood and string and rely on hand and footpower to make them work.
I set up the Weaving Studio at Hannahs with Ben Howard in March 2012 and together we are producing rugs, scarves and so on, for sale in the Gallery. We have 7 weaving looms available and are looking for more people to join us. I run regular weaving and knitting taster sessions and an introductory course in weaving at Hannahs.
I trained as a textile designer at Camberwell School of Art and Crafts in London in 1980 and went on to run sheltered workshops at Hapstead Camphill Community near Buckfastleigh and Blackerton Care Village near Tiverton as well as adult education classes at Paignton Community College.
