Dolapo Oyeniyi

Supporter Worker

Dolapo joined Dame Hannahs in 2023 and works as a support worker, providing compassionate, person-centred care to residents and helping them live fulfilling and dignified lives.

His main responsibilities are the adults with their daily routines — including personal care, meals, medication, and social activities — while promoting independence and wellbeing. He also maintains detailed records and works closely with the wider care team. More recently he has taken on an additional role as a Support Worker Champion as part of a new group of champions who will play a vital role in the charity’s aim to consistently improve the quality of care for the adults and the working environment for our staff teams.

Dolapo heard about the job online and, after researching the organisation, he was impressed by its mission and values and was drawn by the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives and work in a supportive environment focused on care and dignity. Before joining Dame Hannahs Dolapo worked as a data analyst, supporting business teams with insights and performance tracking as well as working in accounting. Although it was rewarding work, he realised he wanted a more people-centred role where he could directly impact lives, which led him into support work.

“Working as a support worker has been a really fulfilling journey of growth. Building strong bonds with the residents and knowing that I am contributing positively to someone’s daily life is deeply rewarding. I have also built strong relationships with colleagues and really appreciate the supportive team atmosphere.
Witnessing the joy on a resident’s face after a good day, or helping someone overcome a difficult moment, reminds me why I chose this path. It’s the human connection that matters most. Seeing progress in the young adults, celebrating small wins, and being part of special events or outings have been highlights for me.
My previous positions helped me build strong analytical, reporting, and organisational skills. My time in accounting taught me discipline and attention to detail, while my data analyst role improved my ability to work with information, spot trends, and make decisions based on evidence. These skills have surprisingly translated well into care work — especially when it comes to record-keeping, documentation, and working within structured routines.
Since starting at Dame Hannahs I have completed training in safeguarding, medication administration, manual handling, infection control, and first aid. These courses have enhanced my ability to provide safe and effective care. I have also seen improvements in training, communication, and a stronger sense of team cohesion over time, which has positively impacted both staff and residents. I aim to grow within the health and social care field, possibly taking on leadership or training responsibilities. However, I also value my background in analysis and finance, so I am open to blending those skills in roles like care coordination, auditing, or operational planning in the future.”
