Joanne Schofield

Deputy Manager of Transitions

Joanne is Deputy Manager of Transitions and joined Dame Hannahs in June 2025. She is responsible for managing the teams in the bungalows and liaising between management and the care staff as well as care planning and compliance.

Joanne was brought up in South Africa and moved to England in 2005 initially to study nursing but chose a different path and studied sports therapy for two years. She then decided to join the Navy where she worked for seven years at HMS Culdrose and HMS Drake. After leaving the Navy she worked as a domiciliary carer before joining Network Healthcare where she worked for four years as a senior support worker and then coordinator. She then joined Cera Care before moving to Dame Hannahs.

“I decided to apply for this role at Dame Hannahs as I wanted a change and heard about the charity from a former colleague. I also needed a job with more structure. Having worked in other care roles it makes me realise how lucky everyone is at Dame Hannahs to have everything all on one site. It is very different to my community work where everyday life as a carer was much more challenging.
Everyone has been really kind and helpful since I started. It is lovely to see our young adults being given so many opportunities, socialising and making plans. I have already seen some lovely bonds between the residents and staff. I am making sure that I get out and about in the bungalows and meeting people. I am gradually getting to know everyone and all the different characters.”
