Cheryl Henden

Cheryl is one of our nurses and joined Dame Hannahs in December 2022. She only started her nursing career seven years ago after she had completed her degree in Adult Nursing at Plymouth University. After qualifying she joined the NHS and took on a variety of roles over the years.

During her time with the NHS she worked at Totnes Hospital, both Exeter and Plymouth Eye Hospitals and as a community nurse. She had known about Dame Hannahs for a while due to her nursing career and through one of her relatives who had worked in the kitchen. She had primarily worked with elderly patients but never with people with disabilities.

Although she had wanted to become a nurse for many years she waited until her children had grown up before starting her new career. Until then she had worked for 20 years in an office for the company that is now EDF.

“I really enjoy working in the nursing team at Dame Hannahs. Before I started I was nervous about working with people with disabilities but have really enjoyed getting to know all the adults with all their lovely personalities and individual habits. I feel that they are an extension of my own family and that makes me feel very happy. I really enjoy all the aspects of my job such as counting meds, checking equipment and changing dressings. I always make a point of visiting the bungalows as well as the Mews and have enjoyed getting to know the care staff and team leaders.”

Cheryl lives in Plymstock with her partner and dogs. In her spare time she enjoys taking part in field archery and being Nanny to her four grandchildren.
